The Oscar Winners Lineup Part One
March 6th 2006 02:52 pm
Best Supporting Actress
Rachel Weisz, The Constant Gardener
Rachel Weisz has always reminded me of Kate Winslet. She looks like her and she can act. So yes, she deserves this.
Best Supporting Actor
George Clooney, SyrianaI’m not really sure. He’s good, but is he Oscar worthy? It’s been a trend for actors who deliberately changed their physiques to win the Oscars. Cases in point, Nicole Kidman (prosthetic nose), Charlize Theron (got fat), Hilary Swank (got bleedin’ toned) and Adrien Brody (got anorexic).
Visual Effects
King KongOh yes, if a computer generated monster ape could move your emotions, I’d say it’s got it.
Animated Feature
Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-RabbitThe whole movie is made up of fookin’ clay. And it’s funny shit. So moving clay and humour = Oscar? Yes.
Short Film (Live Action)
Six ShooterWhatever. I’m not bothered.
Short Film (Animated)
The Moon and the Son: An Imagined ConversationWhatever. I’m not bothered with this either.
Costume Design
Memoirs of a Geisha
Idiotic choice, I’d say. Memoirs of Geisha is a semi-biographical period movie. I’d expect the costumes to be replications of fashion then. Didn’t think there were much creative juices churned during the costume design.
Makeup
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the WardrobeFantastic choice for Oscar. The kids actually looked like they belonged in that era. Tilda Swinton was scary.
Documentary Feature
March of the PenguinsNever watched the show. Wouldn’t know. Wish it were about Dubya instead of penguins.
Documentary ShortA Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin
Corwin who? Should have been about Dubya.
Art Direction
Memoirs of a GeishaWell maybe. Doesn’t even come close to Moulin Rouge, though.
Music (Score)
Brokeback MountainAight, I’ll check it out on my dvd player tonight. Will get back to you.
Sound Mixing
King KongAnother spot-on. Not surprising since it’s predecessor revolutionised sound mixing anyway.
Music (Song)
“It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp” – Hustle & FlowIt’s hard out here for my ears.
Sound Editing
King KongWhat is the relevance of this award, or sound mixing in this case?
Foreign Language Film
TsotsiOut of bounds, I’m not foreign.
Film Editing
CrashOh yes. Never have I watched such an incredibly chopped up movie that makes so much sense. There certainly isn’t any “blaking” for this movie.
More later!
