Mandy Moore has a lot going for her, including a starring role opposite Diane Keaton in the upcoming comedy “Because I Said So.” Even so, she says she’s grappled with depression.

“A few months ago I felt really low, really sad. Depressed for no reason,” the 22-year-old actress-singer says in an interview in the February issue of Jane magazine, on newsstands Tuesday.

“I’m a very positive person, and I’ve always been glass-half-full,” she continues. “So it was like someone flipped a switch in me. I wanted to figure out why.”

“The breakup added to what I was going through, but it’s not the complete reason,” she tells the magazine. “It definitely doesn’t help if you’re already in that place … .”

Moore, who is working on a new record at a studio in Woodstock, N.Y., and feeling better for doing it, says writing songs “away from friends in L.A. or New York” is good for the soul.

“Writing has been really therapeutic,” she says of her music. “These little nuggets that have come up over the past eight months have made me look at things in a different way.”

Moore started out as a squeaky-clean teen singer and later crossed over into movies with featured roles in such films as “A Walk to Remember,” “Saved” and “American Dreamz.”

“I feel bad that people wasted their money on such trite, blah pop music,” says Moore about her earlier music.

Moore has been looking inward a lot of late.

“I’ve been going through this really crazy time in my life — it’s what I imagine people fresh out of college go through,” she says. “I’m asking myself life-altering questions, like `Who am I? Where do I fit in this world? What am I doing, what do I want to do? Am I living to my full potential?’”

Cameron Diaz and Kelly Slater hitting the waves in Hawaii.

After her post-Golden Globes spat with ex Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz headed to Hawaii for some quality time in the sun and surf – and champion surfer Kelly Slater was on hand to keep her company.

Slater cleared his schedule to meet up with Diaz when she arrived in Oahu on Tuesday, sources said, and the pair have since been spotted at various spots along the islands’s North Shore.

They shared a sunset dinner Wednesday night at the renowned Haleiwa Joe’s, sources said, and also stocked up on provisions at a local grocery store Friday night. “She was with him. They were just shopping,” said a witness.

And, of course, they spent plenty of time outdoors, playing a round of golf at the Turtle Bay Resort, according to a source, and hitting the beach. “Someone saw Kelly with a really hot girl in his car and we looked and it was her,” said one observer. Added another, “They were just cruising around.”

Diaz also took some time to be on her own. She was reportedly seen shopping over the weekend at Ala Moana Center in Honolulu, a few miles from tourist-heavy Waikiki.

Diaz and Slater, both 34, are old friends: He joined her on a 2005 conservation expedition to Honduras for her MTV show Trippin’.

An eight-time world champion surfer who acted on the first season of Baywatch and has been linked to Pamela Anderson and Giselle Bundchen, Slater calls his native Florida home but has a house on the North Shore.

“He’s a nice guy. He’s very, very focused, which is what makes him such a good surfer,” says Hawaii-based surfing photographer Carol Cunningham.

Could romance be brewing? Reps for both Diaz and Slater could not be reached for comment, but one thing is for certain: the pair share a great love – for the waves.

Leonardo DiCaprio wanted to give up acting for a time after the hit movie “Titanic.”

DiCaprio was back to being considered a “another piece of cute meat” after the 1997 film’s spectacular box office success, an image he had wanted to get away after his days on the cover of teen magazines, he told Newsweek for editions on newsstands Monday.

There wasn’t any point of time prior to “Titanic” that Leonardo DiCaprio was not considered a piece of cute meat. He had always been one. How could he blame Titanic when it’s a matter of fact he always looked like he barely passed O-levels.

“It was pretty disheartening to be objectified like that. I wanted to stop acting for a little bit,” he said at the magazine’s Oscar panel discussion with other actors. “It changed my life in a lot of ways, but at the same time, I can’t say that it didn’t give me opportunities. It made me, for the first time, in control of my career.”

After many successful movies and critical acclaim, DiCaprio said he loves acting.

“There’s no other art form in the world that affects me more. There’s nothing that I walk away from feeling transformed by the way I do with cinema,” he said.

Leonardo DiCaprio is so annoying. As if he knew his way about other art forms. Just be a bleedin’ actor and stopped being so philosophical about things, it’s damn annoying!

U-Nee

South Korean actress and pop singer U-Nee was found dead from hanging in her home in Seo-gu Incheon, Sunday afternoon.

U-Nee’s grandmother found the body of the 26-year-old singer hanging from a door frame after she returned from a church service.
Police investigating the death have announced the case was an apparent suicide, though the singer left no note or will. U-Nee’s mother has testified that U-Nee had been suffering from depression.U-Nee’s third album Honeyis due for release on February 1. People have speculated U-Nee was suffering from the huge pressure associated with the release of the new album and was upset by online criticisms and attacks.

This is so sad. Why does a perfectly pretty and talented less wants to off herself? There is no suicide note or will, could it be due to foul play?

It’s ironic because her pictures were circulated earlier on the Internet as murdered Mongolian beauty Altantuya Shaaribuu. Altantuya Shaaribuu was murdered in a gruesome manner in Malaysia. Her murder is believe to be masterminded by prolific Malaysian political analyst, Abdul Razak Baginda.

U-Nee came to the public’s attention under the name Lee Hye-ryeonwith her 1996 debut in the KBS TV drama Grown-ups Just Don’t Understand. She appeared in the movie Seventeenin 1998, then in the TV dramas Theme Gameand Tears of the Dragon.

Her debut album Gowas released in 2003 and she gained even greater popularity with the 2005 release of her second album Call Call Call.Her sexy dance moves and revealing fashions made her the favorite of teenagers across Asia.

I hope the real reason of her death can be found out as soon as possible. Her sudden death is certainly suspicious. Sure, it could have been due to depression but why didn’t she even leave a note?

THESE amazing pictures show the full horror of Richard Hammond’s 288mph jet car crash . . . and how lucky he was to survive.

The photos ” released for the first time ahead of a new Top Gear series ” show a tyre exploding into shreds before the dragster skids off an airfield runway amid a stream of smoke.

Richard, known as Hamster, was then sent barrel-rolling across grass at mind-numbing speed, throwing up thick clouds of dirt before landing on his head.

Dad-of-two Richard, 36, has little recollection of the smash, which left him critically ill with a serious brain injury. But imagining what happened, he said: I will have taken a few deep breaths on the startline as the engine roared and my thumb hovered over the afterburner switch.

Then I will have hit it and 10,000 horsepower will have hurled me towards the horizon and up to 280mph. The rest is, I’m afraid, history.

Richard crashed in September while driving the jet-powered dragster at Elvington airfield, near York, for one of Top Gear’s high-octane stunts.

Hammond’s dragster was going on a straight line when one of its tyre blew up.

The dragster began to veer off track.

And then it crashed.

These pictures make my hair stand. I’m amazed that Richard Hammond is still alive. He’s a really lucky chap and I’m glad that Top Gear has not been banned due to the accident. It’s too great a show to go to waste bin just like that.

But he has since made a remarkable recovery, helped by wife Mindy, 35, and daughters Izzy, six, and Willow, three.

And he will be in front of the cameras again with co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May when the ninth series of the BBC2 show starts on January 28.

Video footage of his shunt will be broadcast. And producer Andy Wilman said: Richard is comfortable with it going out.

He is convinced his crash helmet saved his life. So if just one kid who owns a motorbike watches this and thinks, ˜I get you. I have to play it safe,’ he will think it’s a good thing.

Sun columnist Clarkson said: I’ve joked about this accident for months, saying Hammond’s a c**p driver and can’t even go in a straight line.

But I’ve actually seen the footage now and it’s a sickening crunch.

You are just left with, ˜How the hell did anyone possibly get out of that alive?’ You cannot believe somebody lived through it and didn’t have a single cracked fingernail.

Clarkson said Hamster ” seen clutching his battered life-saving helmet on the cover of the new Top Gear magazine ” is now absolutely fine.

He added: He is happy for the film to be shown. It’s playground kudos for him and he hasn’t got any lasting damage.

Everyone will want to see this footage. But if you don’t, Big Brother is on the other side.

Richard’s brush with death has NOT turned him into a shrinking violet. Clarkson said: We all got together in Austria last week for our next mission, which is a thousand times more perilous than the jet car. It was tremendous ” the Old Firm was back.
