In a move that further dispels rumors of marital strife, Tom Cruise has plunked down $35 million for a Beverly Hills home for himself, Katie Holmes and baby Suri, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The star, 44, had been renting a home in Beverly Hills for the past several years (he and Holmes, 28, married last November), but that lease runs out next year, according to the paper.
The new address, which reportedly was not even on the market when Cruise made his offer, is described as a ” traditional-style residence.”
Originally built as a 10,000-sq.-ft. structure in 1937, the house was expanded four years ago and currently contains seven bedroom and nine bathrooms, say those familiar with the property.
The Cruises will have their privacy: the house sits on 1.3 acres behind gates and a lengthy driveway, and sports a tennis court and a pool.
Ah, sounds like a move to keep Katie Holmes privy to public eyes. Bigass mansion, hidden from the street….screams house arrest to me. Sure we’ve seen Katie Holmes shopping and stuff but it’s probably an act. With Suri at stake, I’m sure Katie Holmes would do anything that Tom Cruise commands.
As for the Cruises’ current residence, according to this week’s issue of PEOPLE, the compound also serves as a gathering place for Cruise’s children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman: Isabella, 14, and Connor, 12. (Suri is 1.) The actor’s mother, Mary, 70, also lives there.
“Tom and Katie will get in the kitchen and make this amazing popcorn with chocolate,” says a pal, Internet mogul Sky Dayton. “Suri is there playing. Kate feeds her a bottle and then Tom feeds her.”
In addition, Cruise and Holmes’s pals, Victoria and David Beckham have bought a multi-million-dollar house only two minutes away. They plan to move in July.

All these scientologists love speaking for each other. It’s all so bleedin’ fake! I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a move by Tom Cruise to convert the Beckhams. Probably another of L Ron Hubbard’s aspiration to dominate the UK…..and Tom Cruise is the perfect candidate for the task.

Pete Doherty was arrested this weekend on suspicion of possessing illegal drugs, a published report said Monday.
Metropolitan Police declined to directly confirm the report in The Sun newspaper, but said a 28-year-old man was arrested Saturday night in London on suspicion of drug possession. He was released on bail pending investigation and was ordered to return to a police station next month.
Doherty, frontman for Babyshambles and formerly co-leader of The Libertines, has been undergoing drug rehabilitation under court supervision following a number of arrests for possession of drugs, including cocaine and heroin.
At a court appearance April 18, the rocker said people close to him were insisting that he kick his addiction.
“The people I’m closest to have had enough. They’ve said it’s drugs or them,” he said.
You know what I think? I think it be death before Pete Doherty could kick the drug habit off. It’s a pity, but it’s the reality. And, Kate Moss is not helping much but encouraging all the drinking and partying.

Ah, many apologies, folks. I just came back from a long vacation. Sun, sea and beach. Nothing better than sipping pina colada while listening to the waves and enjoying the sea breeze.
But look at what I came back to? A whinging bitch in the form of Paris Hilton who doesn’t show any remorse or respect for the law. Well, serve her right!

Paris Hilton has spoken for the first time about the 45-day jail sentence she was handed on Friday – and she’s not happy.
Described as visibly shaken and tearful, the heiress, 26, who must serve time for violating her probation after she drove with a suspended license, made her feelings clear to photographers waiting outside her Los Angeles home on Saturday night.
“I told the truth,” said Hilton, according to Reuters (and as was first reported by TMZ.) “I feel that I was treated unfairly, and that the sentence is both cruel and unwarranted. I don’t deserve this.”
Gawd, could this bitch be any more self-absorbed? Boooo, everyone hates me cause I’m beautiful. Booooooo, everyone hates me cause I’m famous. Goodness bitch, get over yourself.
Hilton, however, did foretell of her punishment in an interview she gave beforehand to Harper’s Bazaar, for its June issue. “I think I get in more trouble just because of who I am,” she says, as reported in Monday’s New York Daily News.
“The cops do it all the time,” she is quoted as saying. “They’ll just pull me over to hit on me. It’s really annoying. They’re like, ‘What’s your phone number? Want to go to dinner?’ ”
Despite her current legal woes, Hilton says that police rarely write her up. “They just pull me over, and the paparazzi, of course, take a picture,” she complains. “All the time. I have so many cops’ business cards.”
The Simple Life star must report to jail by June 5.
Hilton’s attorney, Howard Weitzman, said after Friday’s verdict that he plans to appeal.
Awwww…poor Paris. The whole world is against her! This is more the reason for her recuperate in prison for 45 days, don’t you think?
“I’m shocked and disappointed at the sentence by the judge,” Weitzman said. “To sentence Paris Hilton to jail is uncalled for, inappropriate and ludicrous. She was singled out for who she is.”
In all, it was a tumultuous weekend for Hilton. In a further bit of personal upheaval, she split with her longtime rep, Elliot Mintz. At her hearing, Hilton had told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer that Mintz had repeatedly informed her that her license had been suspended for only 30 days and that she could still drive for work-related matters.
In an e-mail to PEOPLE on Sunday, Mintz said: “I believe when Paris stated in court that she believed it was o.k. for her to drive under certain circumstances she was being absolutely truthful.”
He added, “Due to this misunderstanding, I am no longer representing Paris.”
Someone should tell Paris that ignorance doesn’t mean she can get away from a prison sentence. She committed a crime and that’s that. Just shut the fook up and complete the sentence and be a better person.
