Keira Knightley Sues British Tabloid Over Anorexia Claims

January 24th 2007

Actress Keira Knightley is suing a British tabloid, saying that it implied she lied about having an eating disorder.

At issue is a Jan. 11 story in the Daily Mail about a teenage girl who died of anorexia. It was illustrated with a shot of Knightley on a beach in a bikini.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actress, 21, has “publicly denied suggestions that she might be anorexic or have a similar eating disorder,” her lawyer, Simon Smith, said in a statement. He said that any legal action will reiterate that denial.

Does this look healthy to you?

Keira, Keira. Why got so worked up? If she denied for a million years about not having anorexia, people would still not believe her and that’s a fact. Girl ought to just get over it and pack on some meat.

This thing about celebrities that I don’t understand. While they thrive on tabloid reports about them, but the minute one publishes something vaguely true about them, suddenly they want to sue.

Knightley will “argue that the Mail’s article suggests that she has dishonestly sought to mislead the public about whether she has anorexia or similar eating disorder and will show that she does not have anorexia.”

Last summer, at the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest London premiere, Knightley emphatically denied that she suffers from anorexia. “I don’t have it. I’m very sure I don’t have it,” she said.

She continued: “I’ve got a lot of experience with anorexia. It was in my family hugely. My grandmother and my great grandmother suffered from it. And I’ve got a lot of friends at school who suffered from it. So I don’t think it’s anything to be taken lightly.”

If the case is not settled, it could go to court in London later this year.

Associated Newspapers, the publishers of the Daily Mail, did not have a comment Tuesday.

The funny thing is, although there might be chances that Keira Knightley is indeed no anorexic, in spite of that she is one of the major idols for anorexic girls. Her skeletal frame is revered in the circle. Whether Keira Knightley is anorexic or not shouldn’t be the question. The question should be whether Keira Knightley’s very existence sends a healthy message to the public.

Keira Knightley Is Anorexic?

July 5th 2006

British actress Keira Knightley on Tuesday denied rumors she was suffering from the eating disorder anorexia.

Speaking a day after a revealing dress she wore at the London premiere of her latest film prompted questions about her weight, she added that she had a family history of the illness.

So your family had a history of the sickness? Splendid way to deny your anorexia rumours, Keira.

Keira Knightley has had on many occassions mentioned her dissatisfaction towards her body, which is one of the more obvious symptoms of Anorexia. Add that to her rail-thin frame, I think we have a pretty much confirmed case here.

The dress that told the world

“It was really weird, they said that to me yesterday,” the 21-year-old told a news conference, referring to the premiere of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” in which she stars alongside
Johnny Depp.

“They asked: ‘How does it feel to be always called anorexic?’ I had no idea that I was. I can safely say that I’m not.

“I’ve got a lot of experience with anorexia. It was in my family. My grandmother, and my great-grandmother suffered from it and I had a lot of friends at school who suffer from it so I don’t think it’s anything to be taken lightly.”
